Does anyone know if you can rent mobility carts (electric scooters for the handicapped) in Italy? I have googled this and not had any success?
Try this website, although it may be more geared to wheelchairs. We have a disabled friend coming and have been searching for info for him:

Charla, you may have to bring yours from the US to Europe. The airlines are very tolerable about bringing one.
My only concern is getting around town. Unless you can collapse the scooter and haul it on the taxi, you're going to have to walk /scoot throughout the trip. Most of the metro stations are not handicapped friendly, and you will need to find the stations which provide accesibility.
Mobility carts (scooters) may have some problems on the cobblestone streets in most towns. Also, you will need a good lock to keep the cart from leaving without you. These carts are electric so charging them may be a concern if you take your own from home.
