I noticed Mr. Steves highly recommended telecomsquare.us to rent a mobile wifi access on traveling through Europe. I was wondering if he has reviewed glocalme.com or the Huawei mobile hotspot with external antenna - both of which would be something I could pay for to have on other travels and then just use local carriers data plans?

If you only need occasional wifi internet access, you may need no plan. In Italy free wifi hotspots are now numerous after the law was changed 18 months ago. Search the term Free Wifi Italia.

Mike is correct. Three years ago we traveled for ten days throughout Italy and never needed more than the free Wi-Fi that we connected to at our hotels, restaurants, or cafes. Some places gave us a card/passcode to use which gave us 30-90 min. free Wi-Fi, others was unlimited.
