I am traveling with a small group to Italy. I need to know the access code you dial before the phone number when you are calling mobile to mobile within Italy. We are using the phones just to stay in contact with the people we are
traveling with.
Sharon, It would help to have a bit more information. For example..... > Will you be using your U.S. phones while "roaming" in Italy or using Italian SIM cards? When dialing U.S. numbers, the sequence is +1 and the ten digit number. Both parties will pay for each call. > Have you determined that each phone that you'll be taking is a compatible quad-band GSM model? > Are any of the phones Smartphones? If so, you'll have to be VERY careful with data roaming! Using text messages is by far the cheapest and easiest way to stay in touch. Cheers!
As Ken said, if you enter a US number with a +1 and the area code and number (for example, enter (212) 555-1212 as +12125551212), it will dial in Europe. In addition, it will dial correctly anywhere in the world, including in the US, without any need for any further modification. And it doesn't cost extra; using this method, it will dial as a US call while you're in the US. So, for any number you might want to dial while abroad, enter it this way now. This makes both calling and texting much faster and easier when you are abroad. The same is true for Italian numbers. If your Milan hotel's number is 02-8888-9999, enter it in your phone as +390288889999. The formula is: find out how to dial the number from the US; then, put a + instead of the 011 in front of this number. Then, you never have to think about it again.
