What is the least expensive option to fly from Minneapolis, MN to Italy in August - which airline, which airport in Italy to fly into, which week day to travel?

Try using Expedia, where I think you can search a spread of 3 days. It is often cheaper to fly into Milan, but that only makes sense if you want to see Northern Italy. It really depends on where you want to go. August is still high season so it won't be cheap.

Either use Expedia or a similar site or go visit a travel agency.

How about Delta/KLM to Amsterdam (a nice airport to make changes) and then to whatever Italian city? I've heard that Tuesday and Thursday are best, but play around with the site and see. Don't like Sunday for a return flight as there are fewer options. A fellow Minnesotan

Kayak.com is a great way to search for flights put in your wants (ie 1 stop, morning flight....) and it gives you a list from least expensive to most.

Just remember that a lot of these aggregator sites (expedia, kayak, etc.) no longer have access to all airlines. You may have to check individual airlines as well. Happy travels.

I like using ITA software which supports a lot of the sites like Kayak. It gives you many options to compare airlines, flight dates, departure cities, etc. You cannot book directly here, but it will let you know which airline is offering the best deal and then you can book directly with the airline or through a travel agent. http://matrix.itasoftware.com/
