Milano Malpensa Airport ticket kiosk

Arriving in Italy through the Malpensa Airport in Milano. We need to take the Malpensa Express train to Milano Centrale. We have train reservations and need to go immediately. Do you know if the ticket kiosk in Terminal 2 for the Malpensa Express will give you change or do you need to have the exact euros?

If I recall rightly, it only takes credit cards (but I could be wrong), but there is a ticket window right there, and I don't recall any substantial lines to buy tickets.

Carla,

Unfortunately, buying ticket reservations may not have been the best idea in this case. The Malpensa Express does not operate from Terminal 2 so you have two choices.....

  • take the Malpensa Shuttle from T2 to T1 and then connect with the Malpensa Express. The distance between the Terminals is short, but in reality that connection could take at least 30 minutes, if not more.
  • Take the Malpensa Shuttle all the way to Milano Centrale (which will take a minimum of an hour, maybe longer with Expo on as traffic is worse).

With the Malpensa Shuttle, there are a few options for buying tickets.....

  • if you're arriving via easyJet, they sometimes sell tickets on board the flights (at slight additional cost). You'll get a Voucher which has to be exchanged for a ticket. As I recall, there are two firms operating Malpensa Shuttles, and the vouchers are only good for one of them.
  • there are some machines inside the terminals, but I can't recall the exact locations.
  • buy tickets from the driver, who will even validate the tickets for you.

I've found that the situation with the Buses at T2 is usually a bit chaotic and they're usually packed full so best to allow some extra time. You may not be able to get the first bus departure, so may have to wait for the next one.

If you miss the reserved train you've booked, your tickets will be worthless and you'll have to buy another one at full price (Base Fare).

Good Luck!

If the kiosk has a picture of euro bills and coins, it will take cash and give change up to a specified amount. You don't need exact change, but you may not be able to change a €50 or €100 note when buying a ticket.
