Milano Centrale - Where to By Bus Tix

After arriving at Milano Centrale we are planning on taking the bus to our hotel. Question - where do you buy bus tickets at Milano Centrale? Thanks in advance for any info.

In the underground entrance to the metro system there are several ATM (Milan bus and metro) ticketing machines - pay attention to potentially dangerous helpers and/or beggars - or you can buy them from the underground newsstand. I am not sure if they can be found at shops at the upper level gallery, but you can try asking to newsstands.

Maybe spring for a taxi, to avoid the stress of having to figure out the bus schedule. The taxi stand is right outside the station. They can be pricey, tho'. We were just in Milan and took a taxi from the station to the center and it was around 10 euro.

Definitely what lachera said but is your hotel along a metro line at all? I suppose you could get an Uber if you wanted the benefits of a cab but not the price.

Which hotel? You might want to spring for a taxi since you'll have luggage. That can be a real hassle on a bus.

We are staying at the Fifty House, which south and a little west of the station. Not far really, sometimes we like riding the bus as it is always interesting.

The No 9 tram will get you from a couple of blocks from Centrale to a couple of blocks from Fifty House. Walk from the Piazza Duca d'Aosta in front of the station down Via Giovanni Battista Pirelli diagonally to the right one block then a left on Via Fabio Filzi to the tram stop. The closest stops for Fifty House are Viale Premuda, then Piazza Cinque Giornate. Don't forget to validate your tickets when you board.

And yes, buy tickets at a news stand, because the ticket automats are surrounded by "helpers". They help themselves to your change. You can also get multi day passes if you intend to use public transit while in town.

Thanks for the info, do you know if the #9 tram runs on Saturday? Google doesn't show it running on Saturday, I don't know if Google is correct or not.

Thanks again!

We were just in Milan last month and found out that the tickets you buy at the Metro station are good on any mode of transportation in Milan...tram(trolly), metro, or bus. Same $1.50 ticket will be accepted for any of these (one way). These can also be purchased on the street at news stands.

The 1.5 € ticket is valid on all means of transport for 90 minutes in all directions and all tranfers are included. It's not exactly "one way", but as you can enter the metro system only once we could say it's "one way underground".
You can transfer between metro lines within the 90 minutes all the times you want: once you exit the turnstiles you can get on a bus or a tram, but you can't use the same ticket to re-enter the metro.

In theory you could go somewhere taking the metro and come back with buses and trams using only a single 1.5 € ticket. Not easy in 90 minutes, but possible.

The easiest way to be fined while using milan's public transit is using a urban ticket beyond the urban fare limit. It's like the "zones" system in London, but in Milan there are only 2 zones: urban and suburban.
