I am planning a day trip in late September Milano-Lugano. On Trainline and Loco.2 they only publish expensive Eurocity fares. On Trenord they offer regionale fares for half the price. I can purchase these fares at a kiosk on the day of travel, right? They never sell out, right? I just want to be sure.

Actually the same is true also for Eurocity trains. They can be purchased on the spot and they don’t sell out.
If you want a full schedule use the www.trenitalia.com website or the www.Trenord.it website
As the departing station select MILANO (TUTTE LE STAZIONI), that is Milan (all stations), as the regional trains may depart also from Porta Garibaldi and Cadorna. Then depending on the train you decide to take, you go to the applicable station.
