Looking for hotel or B&B ideas for 2 nights in Milan. 4 adults traveling together and we will have a car because it is in the middle of our extended vacation. Any suggestions? Is parking out of the question? We don't mind being a bit outside the city and taking public transit in for our sightseeing. We also don't want to spend a fortune on an overpriced hotel. Any help appreciated!
The area around Rho Fiera, the big trade fair complex northwest of the city has a lot of business hotels that offer very good rates if there is no big fair going on. There is a Metro station and several commuter rail stations around with good service into the center of Milan. The Metro lines extend out pretty far to the east and northeast of the city center as well.
ostello bello is the answer.
Thanks so much for your quick replies-- I will check these out today!
Just a warning: Milan blocks are very long, so be sure your hotel is truly close to the Metro. I stayed at a hotel that was 8 or 10 blocks from the Metro, but even as a New Yorker accustomed to walking, it was very far, and although the hotel itself was fine, I wouldn't stay there again.
On the other hand, the Metro works very well, so even if your hotel is far from the center, it can be fine as long as it's close to a Metro stop (and you don't mind the time it will take to get to and from the center).
I checked out the Ostello Bello website just out of curiosity. It's a hostel, close to the duomo, with NO mention whatsoever for parking... !!??
The Hotel Berna, often recommended here, has good,not too expensive, secure parking. You will have to trust the parking attendant to park it- clients are not allowed to ride into the garage( in our case)- but that worked well. The Berna is a walk thru the tunnel and a half block down from Central Station for both the metro and the train station so you can get around town easily.
@andrea
do you work for ostello bello or have some other association with them? Can you explain how your answer meets the needs of "guylib"?
As the poster of the question, I was a bit surprised by the Ostello Bello response from someone whose log-in seems to imply they are from Milan -- does kind of make you wonder who they really are! How could someone recommend a hostel? Yes, I admit-- I did not specify our ages, but if you're in your 20's and on the hostel-circuit, you usually aren't posting questions on this kind of forum - and you're definitely not traveling with a car!! Thanks to all who have been attentive. I have contacted one B&B that looks promising- I'll let you know!
Errr, guy... I still stay in hostels occasionally. I even can recommend one or two, if appropriate. ;-)
@diane
from the site: Airport pick-up / bicycle hire / car and bike parking available in the neighborhood
