Hi all im looking at booking at trip to northern Italy mid September 2026 for 10 days. I have free airfare to Milan, so I'll be starting and ending there. Was looking for help with the itinerary I'd like to see Venice (stay if necessary) and stay on lake Como. Any suggestions on where to start, how many days needed in each place and what area I should stay in Milano would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance
Christopher
I'd suggest start in the Lake District ( 3 nights), Verona 2 nights, Venice ( stay there for sure! ) 3 nights and back to Milan for 2 nights.
On arrival day, buy a train ticket at the Milan airport to the Venezia Santa Lucia station in Venice (end of line). You’ll need to transfer at the Milano Centrale station in Milan. Sleep in Venice for a minimum of three nights. If you add day trips add an additional night per trip.
Before leaving home, buy a direct train ticket from the Venezia S. Lucia station to the Milano Centrale station: https://www.trenitalia.com/en.html. You want to stay near the Milano Centrale station because that’s where the historical sights are near. You should also buy a roundtrip ticket from Milano Centrale to the Varenna- Esino station and back on Lake Como since Lake Como is a day trip from Milan.
You can also buy your ticket from Milano Centrale to the Malpensa Aeroporto (Milan airport) online. You should be able to buy these tickets six months in advance at a cheaper price than waiting until the last minute and buying them at the train station. It’s also a time saver than waiting in long lines at the train station on the day of travel.
