We are flying into Milan from Naples in Dec, arriving 6:40 on a Sunday evening at Milan MXP airport. Our final destination is Zurrich but we would love to stay somewhere in the alps on the way. We were thinking Wassen but not sure if getting to Wassen that evening is feasible. Is there another destination we should look at? Very interested in suggestions and train routes.

or is there somewhere else we should fly into further north?? our main goal is to stay somewhere between milan and zurrich and then the next day taking trains into zurrich...

Wassen is really of the beaten path, and there are no trains calling there anymore...
Note that in December it will already be dark at 6:40, so wherever you head to you will not see anything.
My suggestions: Take the Tilo train from MXP directly to Lugano and spend the night there. Then the next day just take any train to Zurich. They all go over the old mountain route at the moment, so you will see Wassen. Three times even :-)
All schedules are on www.sbb.ch. You can plan a trip from "Malpensa T1" (or T2) to Wassen there, and you will see it won't really work.

Thank you for that input. We are not stuck on Wassen Just found it online and thought it was beautiful. We will look into Lugano. Thank you
