Milan to Zurich on the train?

Hello need Help!
Thinking of taking the train from Florence to Milan, then on to Zurich (flying back to States from there) just to see the Alps about first week of Nov. If I take the 'fast' train will I see any of the Alps? I understand there is a long tunnel. If I take the Bernina Express, where do I connect with it, what are the connections, and how long would it take? I would spend an entire day on a train and want to make it worth my time. Senior female traveling solo. Thanks everyone for your help ahead of time!

Take the train from Milan to Tirano. That is where you can catch the Bernina Express all the way to Chur where you change for Zurich.

The fast train from Milan to Zurich doesnt' have much dramatic scenery due to the new tunnel. If you have a near full day you can go the Bernina way: Milan-Tirano-Chur-Zurich, minimum two changes. Www.bahn.de/en is a good way to look for connections, and the excellent seat61 website has a lot of info on the Bernina route.

It goes like this, Milano Centrale to Tirano on a regional train, then Tirano to Chur on the Bernina Express, then a Swiss train to Zurich. Current schedule shows depart Milano Centrale at 10:20 and arrive Zurich Hbf at 19:53. That gives over an hour in Tirano, time for lunch at one of the pizzerias by the stations, then the Bernina Express train to Chur with panorama cars and requiring a 16 CHF seat reservation, then an Intercity train to Zurich.
