Milan to Verona with Italo Treno (Which side)

Hi,

I am trying to book online the train from Milano Centrale to Verona Porto Nuovo for a day. I have a few questions;

  1. Which side should i book for the best view and how do i determinw the direction of the train when i choosing the seat?

  2. What happen if i dont reserve (paying extra Euro 2) a seat on Italo Treno?

  3. Will it always be full, possibility of sold out tickets?

  4. For regional train, is it best to book at the train station or through online app?

  5. If i miss the last train to Milan from Verona, what other transportation available? Last train is at 1740.

5… There’s several more trains on Trenitalia that go directly from Verona to Milan that leave after that time.

Use the Italian names for their site:
Milano
Verona

Check both www.italotreno.it and www.trenitalia.com.
Both companies operate trains on that segment, but Trenitalia has more, including Regionale trains which cost less, albeit are a bit slower than high speed trains.

  1. There is nothing worth seeing on either side. So take any seat. I don't know if one is able to see on the app if the seat is facing backwards or not.
  2. ItaloTreno and Trenitalia tickets aboard high speed trains (ItaloTreno operates only high speed) come with reservation.
  3. Extremely rare. At most they run out of the lower class seats, but even that is rare. In that case, if you don't want to buy a higher class seat, just buy for the next train and they'll have seats in all classes. There are lots of trains on that segment.
  4. Up to you. If you buy via the app you must travel within 4 hours from the time of the train you purchase. Paper tickets purchased at the station must be validated (date stamped) at the machines before boarding.
  5. I haven't checked Italotreno but the last Trenitalia high speed Frecciarossa leaves at 21.02. There is also a Regionale departing at 21.43, which takes 29 minutes longer but can still get you to Milan before Midnight.

Roberto is right, you are not paying extra to reserve a seat but to pick a seat.

You can't book a Regional train. You can only get a ticket in advance. Buy such tickets online right before taking your regional train: same flexibility of paper tickets, but no need to time-stamp.

Milano Centrale to Verona

as said above, there is little view either side, The Alps will be on your left, but only very rarely visible, and just short glimpses, and very far away. Sit where is comfortable.
