Milan to Verona

I land in Milan around 10:20am on 26 December and will plan on taking the rail to Verona. How do I get to the rail once I arrive in Milan?

Which airport are you arriving at?
If arriving at Malpensa Airport, you can take the Malpensa Express ( every 30 minutes, travel time around 52 minutes) to Milano Centrale, where you will transfer to the train which will take you to Verona.

You may check train schedules on the Trenitalia website

You'll need to write the train stations in Italian:
- Milan = Milano Centrale
- Verona = Verona Porta Nuova

You will need to validate ( stamp date/time) your Malpensa Express train ticket prior to boarding the train to avoid being fined by the train conductor.

Enjoy!

kevin,

More specific information would help. If arriving at Malpensa, which terminal does your flight arrive at? If the flight is direct from the U.S., you'll be arriving at Terminal 1 and if that's the case the information that Priscilla provided is what you'll need to get to Verona. If you're arriving from somewhere else in Europe, you may be arriving at Terminal 2 and if that's the case, the arrangements will be slightly different.

The Malpensa Express train now calls also at T2.

Keep in mind that not all the airport trains go to Centrale Station, some, stop only at Cadorna station.

Regional trains tickets purchased on-line do not need to be validated. They can be used only on the booked regionale train and on the other ones departing within the following 3 hours.

Further details:There are 2 types of trains running between Milano Centrale and Verona Porta Nuova. Freccia Hi-speed trains that make only a couple of stops and do it in 1 hour 15 minutes, or Regionale trains that make many stops along the way and take 1 hour and 50 minutes. Both go at least once every hour. As you would expect, the fast trains cost more, 24 EUR when bought at the station and they come with seat reservations and you must ride the train shown on the ticket. The Regionale trains are 12.70 EUR (2nd class), sit anywhere, and you must validate your ticket before boarding, in the stamping machines on the platform. Tickets bought at the station are good on any Regionale train that day, just remember to validate it right before you board.

Woops, I didn't realize I am actually landing in LIN and not MXP (fly out of MXP end of trip). How do I get from LIN to the rail to go to Verona? Sorry about that!!!!!!

Public bus, private mini-bus or a taxi to Milano Centrale. Last time I paid 20 € for a cab, but it was the rush hour.

darioalb,

Thanks for the update. It looks like the Malpensa Express rail service to MXP T2 just opened this month, and the trip takes 6 minutes longer than to T1. That will be a big improvement, but I'm sure the Malpensa Shuttle operators won't be happy.

kevin,

LIN is relatively close to Milano Centrale. You could take a shuttle but I'd probably use a Taxi.

Kevin,

It's a good thing that you checked your flight arrival ;-)

I will echo Ken's advice regarding taking a taxi to Milano Centrale (from Linate), especially if you will be experiencing
jet-lag from an overnight flight.

Make sure you try the delicious gelato at Pretto Gelateria when in Verona!
