Milan to Salzburg by night train

Hi Cheryl. You're on the right track - see comments below. (Three of us traveling from Milan to Salzburg and would like to experience the overnight train) Fun idea; note that the leg fron Udine to Salz is only 5 hours, so you may not get much sleep. And you will arrive in Salz at 4am. Then what? And it will be dark so you will miss scenery. But it would be unique / memorable, and inexpensive. (We will be going in Oct, so I used a Sunday night date in July because Oct was to far off. When i put the date it may choices came up but only one with a fare.) Good idea to try closer date. fyi - the other trains you are seeing can't be purchased on that site b/c they have a connection outside Italy. (on to the next page not sure what fare to pick...) Pick Smart fare - which ever is cheapest. (Now I had 3 people is this a pp price or a total price.) If you have 3 in total passengers, then total price shown is the grand total, NOT per person. (Then I went below and chose a 3 bed compartment as 3 of us will be traveling. Do you have to book one at a time? If so what is there is not enough availabilty for 3 and I get either 1 or 2 in and then full.) To the right of the '3 bed compartment' selection, pick 'total compartment'. That means you are buying all 3 beds. If the 'dot' to the right stays green, then this is available. For ticket delivery, pick 'Self Service'. You will be given a 6 digit code which you will use to pick up your tix at any major train station in Italy. NOTE: by taking this train, you are essentially taking train to Venice to pick up the night train, then backtracking. An alternate would be to spend a day in Venice as long as you are so close, then take the night train to Salz. Enjoy your trip!

Thank you so much for answering my questions. Doing further research arriving at 4 am really is not good we will most like fly unless I come up with another ideas. Trying to fit as much in as possible. Again many thanks.
