We got a deal on airfare to and from Milan, but are thinking of starting in Naples and working our way back North. Our flight gets in midday, and there is an Easyjet flight to Naples at 15:30.
Is there enough time to get through immigration/customs to make this flight, and has anyone used Easyjet in Italy?
What was the experience like?
As an alternative, there is a direct train from Milano Centrale to Napoli Centrale every couple of hours, fares for May are about €49-69 depending on fare class and when you purchase. Takes about 4 hours. You could arrive sooner by train, or spend that much time waiting for a flight.
It's about 150 miles south of Rome to Naples, and a long way from Milan. Fly it.
Just be sure to travel light or you'll pay dearly for a check in bag. You should make the flight just fine.
We've flown EasyJet into Pisa without incident.
Assuming "midday" means noon, and if everything works out the way it should, you will make your Easyjet flight. If there's any delay (late arrival at Milan, slow line at immigration, etc), you may not.
In that case, you can always take the train or another flight; last minute prices on the train aren't bad, but last minute flights may be expensive.
What I did in a similar situation (flying to Rome on miles and had to get to Palermo on a separate ticket) was to buy two tickets - one three hours after arrival and one ten hours after arrival. I knew I'd use one and discard one, and just figured the cost of the two tickets together as the cost of getting to Palermo. Because I bought pretty far in advance, I was able to get discounted tickets; even two of these were cheaper than a last minute ticket on the day I was flying (a Monday).
Do look at Skyscanner to see all flights from Milan to NAP: http://www.skyscanner.com/. Make sure your flight to Milan and from Milan are at the same airport. As far as the airlines are concerned, Milan has three airports - Malpensa (MXP), Linate (LIN) and Bergamo Orio al Serio (BGY) - and they are all quite far from each other.
Note that if you're booking an Aliltalia domestic flight, it's often cheaper on their International website than their US one - for the exact same flights! Also note that the cheapest tickets sell out quite quickly - book as soon as you're sure of your plans.
lusi,
If you decide to fly and have limited time to make the flight connection, one point to keep in mind is that you'll be arriving at Terminal 1, while easyJet uses Terminal 2. It only takes a few minutes to make the trip between terminals, but of course there will be waiting time for the bus, getting to the easyJet luggage drop desk and then through security again.
Yes, I've used easyJet in a number of countries, including Italy. They're my preferred budget airline in Europe, and I fly with them whenever possible. Be sure to read their Terms & Conditions carefully, especially related to luggage rules.
The shortest travel time by train from Malpensa / MXP to Naples is 5H:32M, which will likely be close to that of air travel when all is considered. The trip by train will most certainly be more relaxing and pleasant, with none of the usual airport hassles and no expensive luggage charges.
