Milan to Monterosso

We are flying into Malpensa on a Sunday morning, and want to go by train to Monterosso. We are coming from the West coast of Canada so will be very jet lagged and out of it after a very long flight so I am trying to organize everything before hand.
I have been on the Italian train schedule site, and have also been persuing maps.
Do you have to go into Milan Centrale station to get the train? Is your ticket your seat reservation on Intercity trains, or do we have to buy those in Milan?
If there is anyone who has done this trip, with any suggestions, that would be helpfu.
Ciao

I did this in October. It is very easy. Take the bus from the airport to the train station. At the train station buy your ticket to Monterosso from a ticket kiosk. Contrary to what Steve says you will get assigned a reserved seat. To find your seat find the Carrozza (car) number. That number tells you which train car your seats are on. The carrozza number will appear next to the door of each train. Find the right train car hop on and find your seat. You might find someone sitting in it, no worries, it is common just let them know that is your assigned seat.

Opps, I forgot to mention that the carrozza number will be printed on your ticket.
