At the end of our trip, we are staying just one night in Milan - Hotel Berna which is very close to the Centrale train station and also bus shuttles to the airport. We are departing Milan on Sunday, 15 July from Malpensa and have an 11am flight. I'd like to avoid the expense of a taxi or uber. Do people recommend taking the train shuttle or bus shuttle to airport? Which is faster and most reliable?
The train Malpensa Express is most reliable. There is a potential problem with car traffic if you were to take the bus
Both are reliable. I'd take the train with a 7 am departure. The buses are fine as well, slightly cheaper, a little slower. They are a great back-up if one of those Italian train strikes pop up, as has happened to me.
I took the train, 13 euros. The train from Cadorna is around 40 min, and Centrale more like 55 min. Mid day, there were 2 trains/hr.
We've taken the bus and they're comfortable and efficient but could experience a holdup should there be a traffic issue. Sunday morning should be better than a weekday, though, and they are a nice alternative in the event of a strike. We had an earlier flight than yours so had to leave at o-dark-thirty on a weekday but no traffic issues at all. Took about an hour.
My bus from Malpensa to Milan got stuck in traffic (not forever but I was like, I'm tired, let's GET there!) when I visited Milan in 2009. The train to Centrale was not yet operating. In 2011 I flew out of Malpensa via Milano Centrale and did take the train. I'd never take the bus unless the train wasn't operating.
