Milan where? Malpensa airport, City center?
Lake Como where? Bellagio, Menaggio, Sorico, Varenna, Como?
Routes are different depending on where you come from and where you are going to.
However, chances are that, if you arrive at Malpensa and go to the mid-lake area, by the time you are there it will be several hours later, and your hotel might be able to check you in early. If not, you can leave the suitcases with the reception personnel and go out for a walk.

As Roberto stated, more info, please. Also, where do your interests lie? That will help with advise as well as knowing what you already have planned so we aren't recommending existing ideas.

Thanks.

There are 8 women, in our sixties, traveling for a week together. Like good food, wine. Flying into Malpensa and driving to stay in Bellagio for 5 nights. Back in Milan for two nights before heading home.

Flying into Malpensa and driving to stay in Bellagio

"Driving", as in renting cars or hiring a driver/using a transfer service to drive you ?

Can you drop your bags at the hotel and then have lunch in Bellagio?

There is nothing particularly interesting between Malpensa and Valmadrera.
If you want you can stop somewhere along the western shore of the Lecco branch of the lake, but I'd go to the destination, drop off the ;bags and eat in Bellagio. From the moment your plane touches the tarmac and your arrival to Bellagio I'd be surprised if you make it in less than 3-4 hours. By the time you're done with deplaning, immigration, baggage claim, car rental procedure, getting familiar with car, etc. it will take well over 90 min before you drive out of the Malpensa garage, then you need almost 2 hours to get there.
