Why not take the train? It travels at 300 kph, twice the speed of a car.
Which Milan Airport?

The drive to Florence is over 300 km, taking at least 3 1/2 hours. Any car service would also charge for the driver's return drive, making a hired car service VERY expensive. Or you could take the train which would get you there in less than 2 hours.

Milan to Florence by car in 3 1/2 hours is a bit optimistic, I usually take a little more (but I go quite close to the external highway ring in Milan). If you are leaving from MXP add 1 hour, more at peak time. A good combination of MXP Express + Frecciarossa can bring you in Florence in 3 hours 20 minutes. No way to match on the road.

I wish you could drive at 150 km/h. Never been able to drive from MXP to Florence in less than 5 hours, including pit stop(s) for snack and bio breaks. Also never driven through the Tangenziale (beltway) without getting stuck in major traffic. It’s also the most boring drive on earth. Do yourself a favor. Take the high speed Frecciarossa train.

Actually the top allowed speed on the highway is 130 km/h. From Bologna to Milano there are very frequent speed radars, measuring not only the instant speed but also the average speed over several kms.

Kerry, just throwing my vote in with the others to take the train. Malpensa> Florence is a looooong way, and you'll get there faster and less expensively by rail than by road. Italian trains are great; nice to be able to get up and have a stretch, use the facilities, eat lunch (you can bring food; unlikely allowed in a car service) and not lose any time for stops. They're also very comfortable, and you bypass traffic jams.
