We are flying to Milan in a few days and then plan to board a train to Bern the day after our arrival to spend time with a friend there. I can't seem to find a midday train ticket. I think we'll just be able to buy one the day before we arrive but my husband wants to make sure that we have reserved tickets. Any suggestions?

I appreciate the help on this. We’re traveling on January 2. Trenitalia doesn’t seem to recognize Bern as a destination.

Sure it does. On Jan 2 there is a 7:10 direct train, the 3:10 pm train is sold out, and there is also an 8:10 pm direct train. Lots of other trains with a single connection.
As soon as you type "Ber" in the destination box, a drop down menu will show several options, one of which is Bern.

I think the website was a little glitchy last night because when Bern did finally come up, then it kept scheduling me a day ahead. Really appreciate this forum. :)
