Milan to Bern

We are looking for best options for train travel from Milan to Bern. Does the Bernina express run that route? Additionally, are there multiple trains each day?
Thank you

No, the Bernina Express does not go that way, but there are multiple direct trains every day. If you want a more scenic journey, get off the train in Brig, Switzerland and continue on the RE train that takes an older route over the mountains, rather than than the new base tunnel that goes completely under them.

The Bernina line, which has several local trains and a couple of special tourist trains each day, could be used as part of a very roundabout way of linking Milan and Bern.

You'd first take the TreNord train from Milan (Milano Centrale unless you were elsewhere along the route) along the east side of Lake Como, to the final station in Italy on that route at Tirano.

You can walk across the piazza and join a Rhaetische Bahn train at their station, and ride it up and over the line past St Moritz to Chur. At Chur change to a Swiss SBB train to Bern via Zurich (change there) or direct with no changes on the train to Geneva Airport (which does stop in Zurich but you stay on).

This route will take you all day. You could also stop over on the way to break up the long journey.

Extremely scenic but by no means anything close to the fastest route.
