We will be staying in Bergamo, Italy, for 18 days and plan on taking the train to Milan a couple of times. It looks like tickets for can run around 25 Euros! Does anyone have better information?
No. The cost is €5.50 each way. So the round trip is €11.
The journey time is 48 min.each way.
You must be looking at Rail Europe, a big mistake. Use http://www.trenitalia.com/tcom-en
Most trains go to Milano Centrale and a few go to Milano Porta Garibaldi for a little less money.
We were in Bergamo for three nights in 2015 and really liked the city. We stayed in the old section, took a cab to La Citta Alta, and then walked down hill to our hotel.
Try to gelato at Gelatoria La Romano on Via Gerlamo Tiraboschi 42. Outstanding!
Buon viaggio,
Hmmm, I won't agree that Milan can be visited in a day, maybe, but that train tickets from Bergamo are MUCH cheaper than 25 euros. Been there; done that.
FYI, Rail Europe sells these tickets for $6-7.50 each way, per person in 2nd class or $11 in 1st class. I'd say that pricing is described pretty clearly there. Not that you should buy these Regional train tickets in advance - they're easy to buy in the station.
