Milan to Bellagio public transportation for a day trip

We have one day to see Lake Como from our hotel in Milan. What's the best/reasonably priced way to get to and experience the area?

Take the Regionale train to Varenna and then ferry to Bellagio
Train is 63 minutes per the schedule. Train is about $8 each way/ Ferry about $5 each way

The land route is a combination of train and bus and would take too long for a day trip. ( 3+ hrs each way)

You have trains at 08:20 and 09:20 from Milano Centrale to Varenna.
Journey time is 1hr 03min.
Ferries to Bellagio depart at 10:23 and 11:23, and take 17 mins.
