We are traveling last week of March and into first week of April from London to Rome. We are going to be in Milan for 3 days. We are going to take a couple of day trips. One will be to Venice, and the other free day we will have we want to know if there is a way we can Rail to Grindelwald Switzerland and enjoy a half a day and rail back to Milan? It such a beautiful place. If not, we will have to plan our next vacation trip in the future to do Switzerland. Reading through a lot of message boards its sort of all over the place. Just didn't know if there was a bullet rail to Zurich and then up to Grindelwald and back if you would even have enough time to see or do anything...
Thanks,
Kyle

My advice would be to stay in Venice and do day trips from Venice. Milan to Venice is 2.5 hr train. With getting to the train station, arriving early for your train, the actual travel, and reverse once in Venice, that's more than three hours each way in transit. That's too much for day tripping. Venice is much more charming in the evenings and mornings than Milan, and Venice has so many options for close day trips.
I'm afraid those bullet trains only exist in your dreams. Leave Switzerland for another trip.
Enjoy Italy.
It looks like its 4.5 hours to Grindelwald via a Eurocity, Intercity and a regio train. If you went to Zurich first, you'd be going a ways out of your fastest route there.
Well, you can see the timetable for Switzerland on the SBB website. You would have to leave Milan at 7:10am in order to have something like three hours and half in Grindelwald and then back on train a little past 2:40pm in order to be back in Milan at 7pm. Or you may buy a little time more in Grindelwald by arriving back very late in Milan.
Thank you for the info...We just want to go to Grindelwald First and spend about 3 to 4 hours. So, thanks again for the info!!!!
