We will be spending 4 nights in Milan. We are two women traveling alone and I'm concerned about our safety and taking the subway/trains at night. How safe are they? I wouldn't take the subway here in Chicago at night. Should we use the same precautions and take taxi's at night in Milan?
If you don't feel safe using the Chicago subway then don't use Milan's at night. You may be more comfortable using the trams, a lot of the lines more or less follow the same route as the metro lines- but obviously not as fast. There is a big taxi stand right next to the Duomo Cathedral; at any one time there are about twenty taxis waiting.
Depends a little on what you mean by "night." Early evening till 10 or 11 or so will be safe because it will still be crowded. Some restaurants don't open till 7 or 8 pm. And there is a lot of people still moving around at that time. Pass night, probably a good idea to use a cab.
Thank you for your advice, I will certainly take it!
