My husband & I are flying into Milan in the evening. We're spending 1 night, then taking a train to Venice. Is it better to find a hotel near the airport or get into the city center near the train station to be closer in the morning? Is a taxi ride into Milan more expensive or can you take a train/ shuttle into downtown Milan? Thank you in advance! You guys are so helpful! :)
You can take a bus from Malpensa Airport to the Central Train station in Milan. I'd stay near the train station for just one night.
Another option that would depend on what time you arrive at the Milan train station would be to take a train to a smaller city (Verona, for example--it's 1.5-2 hours by train) and then go on to Venice the next day.
Janna, Sharon has a great suggestion! We loved overnighting in historic Milan before heading by train to Venice BUT we arrived at 9:30 a.m., so that really doesn't work for you (in my opinion). The extra travel (by train) to an intermediate town wouldn't be that bad and it'd be great to wake up in a beautiful Northern village. Let me add: depends on what you mean by "evening" - you may have had all the travel details you can handle at the end of a very long day.
