Milan - Spiez in late August

Hi all,

Have been trying to book a direct train in late August on the Trenitalia website, however there doesn't seem to be any. Is there a planned disruption/maintenance on the route? How can I check?
I was under the impression that the June 10 timetable update would show all the available trains.

Could be a scheduled maintenance issue. I see trains are being routed to Olten with a connection to Spiez.

Is there any way to check? I tried the SBB website but there's no mention of it

When I look at the Deutsche Bahn site, EC 52 now goes from Milano Centrale direct to Spiez, departing at 11:20 am, arriving Spiez at 1:53 pm. When you look at the notes, it says:

Days of operation: runs daily, not 17., 18., 24., 25. Jun, 21. Aug until 10. Sep 2023, 9. Dec

So it looks like it is not operating Aug 21 to Sept 10. That tells me there is maintenance on the line. Other routings show a replacement bus between Sesto Calende and Arona in Italy on the direct route.

If you are going to Interlaken/Lauterbrunnen, best route looks like either the 8:10 departure on EC 156 or the 10:10 am departure on EC 158 to Luzern, then change to the train to Interlaken Ost.

There are engineering works going on around Milan. For that reason on weekends the EC trains on the Simplon route are only opened for booking a few weeks before their running date, as they decide on the last moment wether to run them from Centrale or Porta Garibaldi.

You'll be able to book them late July.

Thanks for your reply Wengen, so you are under the impression that there will be direct trains running and I just have to wait? As Sam said the Deutschbanh site says that this particular route will not be running in late August?
