Milan:Santa Maria delle grazie/Duomo visit

Hi all,
Landing in Milan on 9/08 Friday approx 8:30 Am and heading up to Como for 3 nights .I wanted to avoid coming back down to Milan (even though its just an hour trip) to see Santa Maria delle Grazie/Duomo .I wanted to ask how this sounds. After we land that Friday Am,store our bags at Milan Centrale and either by taxi or subway to to make these 2 stops before heading to Varenna.I know thats really hitting the ground running but like I said I wanted to if possible avoid coming back down to Milan cause from Como we are taking we will continue on to Salzburg via Switzerland by train.Plus our room probaly wont be ready till approx 3pm.Also do I need advance tickets to these sites? Thank you for your opinions.

You definitely need advance ticket for Leonardo's Last Supper. You can take the metro to the Duomo stop, go to the roof if you have time.

It sounds like you have all day free, at least until lunch time or until you poop out, so I'd say your plan is doable. It's not easy for me to stay awake after a flight from the west coast of the US if I haven't slept on the plane. But having something exciting lined up is a good motivator and your reserved time with the Last Supper is brief. You also want to be awake enough not to fall off the Duomo roof, but it's an elevator ride, not an serious hike or museum that requires hours to see.
