milan s- trains

are reservations required on s trains in milan with a eurailpass? or do you just hop on,

S Trains are mass transit. They are comparable to eg. the S-Bahn in Germany. I fact, the Lombardia region has modelled its train system on Swiss and German practices, so you also see R and RE services. All those have in common that you do not need reservations.

But given the low cost of tickets I would not bother with an Eurail Pass there. An Eurail Pass is a bit of a hassle in Italy anyway.
And another thing: Public transit in Milan follows the German practice of being integrated. Tickets are based on zones and time, and allow you to use any public transit within the zones and the time period you bought. So free transfers to tram, bus, metro etc...
However with the Eurail Pass you only can take the train.
