We want to see the lowering of the Holy Nail at the Duomo in Milan. Ricks guide book says it is down for three days in mid Sept. Does anyone know the three days it will be down in 2009. Several sites are vague about it.

Thank you. This is about when we had been lead to beleive it would happen. We will schedule our arrival in Milan for Sept 11 and should be able to make it.

A few notes about visiting the Duomo in Milan. You'll probably be checked by a group comprising Polizia di Stato, Carabinieri and Italian Army before entering (all three were at the door when I visited last week). There's a large sign at the entrance stating no photos, cell phones, etc. however they didn't seem to be enforcing this too rigorously. I tried to respect the rules, but saw camera flashes "popping" all over the place. I asked one of the Army personnel about this, and he just shrugged his shoulders.
If you want to visit the roof, exit the Duomo at the rear on the right side. Go across the street to the ticket office and buy your ticket, and then back to the entrance to the roof for the Ascensore (Elevator). The roof entrance is right next to the rear exit from the Duomo. I believe there's also a small charge for those wanting to take the stairs to the roof rather than the Elevator.
