Milan's Malpensa Airport to Milan's Centrale train station

We are arriving into Milan's Malpensa Airport and will be taking the train from Milan Centrale to Venice. If arriving at 7:00 AM, how much time should we allow to get to Milan Centrale train station?
Also, does anyone know if there's a BNL D'Italia ATM or bank at the airport?

I would allow a min of three hours, assuming your flight is on time. At least an hour or more to clear immigrations and customs. Maybe 25 mins waiting for the next train and another hour to Centrale and finally 30 mintues (restroom stop, snack, ect.) to find your train platform. BUT, if you are going to book a reservation on-line for the train to Venice (not generally recommended) than I would allow at least five to six hours to cover most contingencies.

There are ATMs at the airport. Who they belong to, I don't know. As long as it is a bank owned ATM you are fine.

jgs,

This question seems to come up several times a week. It's very easy to get from MXP to Milano Centrale, but there are a few things to be aware of.

To begin with, there's no way to accurately predict how long it will take to reach Milano Centrale as there are number of variables including....

  • Your flight may be late arriving.
  • It may take longer than anticipated to de-plane.
  • Passport control may be extremely busy if a number of flights arrive at the same time (ie: long queues).

For those reasons it's not a good idea to purchase advance tickets for the trip from Milan to Venice as the tickets are specific to one train, date and departure time and if you miss the train your tickets are worthless and you'll have to buy more at full (Base) fare.

Here's the sequence you'll need to follow.....

  • When you've collected your luggage and gone through Passport control, make your way to the airport rail station and buy tickets for both the Malpensa Express and the train to Venice. Note that your destination station will be Venezia Santa Lucia.
  • Go to the departure point for the Malpensa Express but note that it has two destinations - Milano Centrale and Milano Cadorna. BE SURE to board the correct train!
  • YOU MUST validate your tickets prior to boarding the Malpensa Express or risk hefty fines, which will be collected on the spot!
  • When you arrive at Milano Centrale (Tracks 1 or 2), make your way into the main hall and have a look at the electronic board to locate the Binario (track) number for your train to Venice. It will be abbreviated as "BIN" on the display.
  • Your tickets will have compulsory seat reservations, and will specify which Car (Carrozza) and Seats (Posti) you'll be sitting in.
  • When you board the train, larger luggage items are place on the rack at the end of the car (if there's room), and smaller items (especially those with valuables) can be placed on the racks above your seat. Be sure to keep an eye on luggage placed on the racks to make sure nobody "pinches" it.
  • When you walk down the front steps of Venezia Santa Lucia, you'll be right at the Grand Canal.

I don't know what type of ATM's (Bancomat) there are at MXP as I always travel with cash so have never needed to use them. You may want to wait until you arrive at Milano Centrale as there are lots of services there......

Do not know which bank, but I did easily find a Bancomat at Malpensa when we arrived there last May.
