Any advantages or disadvantages to using Milan's Linate Airport or Malpensa Airport for a flight back to the United States? Staying at hotel close to Milano Centrale train station.
Linate will not have direct flights back to the US. You will have to change planes at some other airport in Europe. Hope it is not CDG. Good side, since it will be a "domestic" flight, you will not have to arrive until 2 hours before your flight and it is a lot closer to Milano Centrale. There are buses, or take a taxi.

Linate is a smaller airport and mostly used for domestic European flights. As Sam mentioned, for flights back to North America you'd have to transfer at a larger hub airport. If you were planning to take a flight from Linate between 27 July and 29 October, that won't be possible anyway as the airport will be closed for maintenance and flights diverted to MXP.
If I had to choose between either, it'd be Linate. Like others have mentioned, it's closer to Milan so the ride there is very short. It's also more organized and easier to navigate. There are always buses to Linate from Centrale.
