We Will be arriving to Milan airport, with a 2 day stay at Hotel Gran Duca Di York.
1) Is the express train best to get to hotel Di York or other means of transport?
2) Can I purchase tickets for preferred transportation upon arrival?
3) If taking express train which one Centrale or Cadorna?
After 3 days will be meeting up with our tour group at the Hotel Royal Victoria in Varena
A) How long will it take to get to Lake Como?
B) Where would I get tickets & meet the train to Lake Como?
C) How far from train station to Hotel Victoria?

1-3) From MXP there is an easy connection by express train to the city, which you can purchase at arrival. Whether you go to Centrale or Cadorna depends on the location of your hotel. Generally speaking, it’s best to go to Centrale and take a taxi from there to your hotel if it is not within walking distance.
A-C). You can get the tickets for the train to Varenna at Milano Centrale. There are several of them a day and it takes about an hour. The train station in Varenna is very small, as is the city. I’m not familiar with Hotel Victoria, but if it’s not that close, there are a couple taxis that are usually waiting at the station for new arrivals. You can check out the distance from the station to your hotel by looking on Google Maps.

1 - Express train to Cadorna from airport
2 - purchase ticket at airport upon arrival - currently departs every 30 mins
3 - Cadorna is closest to your hotel
A - From Centrale train station it’s about one hour to Varenna on the Re8 train (on a direct train)
B - purchase ticket at the train station preferably a day or two in advance to avoid being delayed (trains leave every hour but all are not direct so check schedule ahead of departure date)
C - it’s about a 10 minute walk from the train station to the hotel. Typically, your tour packet will provide detailed directions and options (walk, taxi, etc.)
I thoroughly enjoyed the Italy in 16 days tour.

Thanks for the question and the replies. We are doing the exact same thing prior to our BOI tour in early September except we will be staying at the Hotel Sina de la Ville. I checked it out and it seems we should take the express train to the Centrale station. Otherwise, instructions should remain the same. Yes?
