We had originally planned to stay in Lugano rather than Milan, but now have learned that we won't fly into Milan until 6 pm..on Sept. 21 after many hours of travel. So it looks like we should cancel our first night in Lugano and stay in Milano, right? At least for one night? Or should we rethink our plan altogether? -- Mary Kitch
From my very direct experiences from two trips post-COVID, you can't count on the airlines getting you to your destination on the designated arrival day. On one trip, our international flight was canceled and thus we were delayed 24 hours; our second trip there was a 4-5 hour delay, so we missed our connection, and arrived in our European city at midnight. It would have been impossible to travel further that night. iMHO, plan on delays and build them into your schedule .
Safe travels!
Might as well go through with your plan and just take the train from the airport directly to Lugano leaving at 19:19 or 20:19 or 21:19 instead of going into Milan.

Unless the plane is awfully late, you can make it with one of the direct trains (no changes) from the airport to Lugano
