Milan or Genoa for the overnight?

We are flying in to Milan and arriving at 10am for our Mediterranean cruise departing from Genoa the next day. We are trying to figure out if it would be best to go ahead and travel to Genoa and stay the night there before our cruise leaves, or if we should find a hotel in Milan and explore there (leaving early the next morning via train to Genoa). There will be 7 of us - 2 kids (aged 12 and 15). I'm wondering if it would be better to just get where we need to be and explore Genoa - or if Milan is worth the time spent (we will stay on points that night for a hotel so hotel pricing isn't an issue) What are your recommendations?

I always like to be near my tour the night/morning before. I think a night in Genoa would be best.

Genova is not the prettiest city in Italy, but there are a few interesting things to see: - La Lanterna (lighthouse) - I rolli (noblemen palaces). There are 42 of them, all part of the UNESCO Heritage list - Cattedrale San Lorenze - Carrugi (alleys) - Piazza Ferraris - Aquarium
etc. Ristorante Da Rina (Mura delle Grazie), often frequented by Heads of State, is a must (not even expensive). It's near the port, since you are going there.
