Milan - One Day Itinerary

Hello!
I have tickets to visit Santa Maria delle Grazie at 10:30am on a Saturday in April. My hotel is located next to Milano Centrale. Can someone recommend a pleasant walking route between the two?

My plan for after the Basilica is to walk towards the Duomo, have lunch, explore a bit & maybe make a reservation for the Duomo around 3pm, rest up at the hotel afterwards & then take the metro to grab dinner in the Navigli district.

If anyone has suggestions for walking directions between Santa Maria & Duomo, or if you think there would be a better time to schedule the Duomo please let me know.

I was considering trying to visit the Leonardo Da Vinci museum but reviews seem like it’s more for kids so I think I’ll skip that.

Thank you!

If you have an interest in Leonardo da Vinci, you might enjoy the Pinacoteca Ambrosiana which holds his Codex Atlanticus.

I was staying at a hotel right across from the Pinacoteca Ambrosiana so walked from the Hotel Gran Duca di York to the Last Supper and back. On the way I stopped at the Palazzo Imperiale Romano di Massimiano for a quick look. I had the City Mapper app so just followed that for a direct route there and back. I did the Last Supper, walked back, stopped at the Pinacoteca Ambrosiana, then went on to the Duomo to do the rooftop and the interior of the cathedral.

You might want to find out when sunset is on your day and plan for the Duomo just before sunset. The view is amazing.

Thanks! Both great ideas :)

I didn’t know you can link to a walking map like that, appreciate it!

For the sunset, do you have to go exactly at the time you book? For ex can I book a package, go to the museum or other items at the time of the booking (ex 2pm) & come back later for the terraces before sunset (ex 6pm), do you have to use them all at the same time?

I think the booking is for when you must go to the rooftop. That area is not huge so I think they control the numbers that can access at one time.
