Milan MXP to city center options?

We'll be arriving at MXP in the morning after a long flight and I am wondering what are the best options to get to the center of town? How much would a car (ordered from hotel) or is there a safe, not a big hassle way to go by bus or train?

Betsy, As the others have mentioned, it's very easy to get from MXP to Milan, either by train or Bus (Malpensa Shuttle). As I recall, there isn't an appreciable difference in time in either case. I assume you'll be arriving on an international flight at Terminal 1? The Bus takes about 50-minutes, depending on traffic. It's a large "Greyhound" style coach, with comfortable seats. Larger luggage goes in the compartment underneath, and carry-on items can be taken on the Bus. The Bus terminates at Milano Centrale as do the FS trains. In order to determine which option might be more suitable, it would help to know where your Hotel is located? If it's closer to the Duomo or Sforza Castle, the Malpensa Express (train) may be a better option. It terminates at Milano Cadorna station, which is closer to the Duomo. Happy travels!

There are trains leaving MXP for Milano central area 4 times per hour (2 go to Milano Cadorna, 2 go to Milano Centrale). They make a handful of intermediate stops and take around 45 minutes to complete the journey (some runs do it in 37-39 minutes). It's fairly easy to use the trains.

Shuttle buses run from MXP to Milano Centrale every 20 minutes. The fare is €10.00.

The Malpensa Express used to only run between the airport and Cadorna. Now it also runs betwen the airport and Milano Centrale. These are different routes. If you take the train, be sure to get on the right one.

Thanks everyone, I am trying not to repeat what I did when we took the train from Charles DeGaul in Paris into the city - during rush hour. That was decidedly a bad choice! We were sardined into a train car, shoved and pushed for what seemed like forever. A taxi ride was worth it then!
So I am hoping that during rush hour the train isn't crowded and the bus isn't stuck in 2 hrs of traffic?
