Milan: Malpensa or Linate airports

I will be using airline miles to fly back from Italy. I can fly Malpensa to JFK to Boston, but it is a day later than I need. I can fly Linate to Heathrow to Boston the day I want but I am not familiar with Linate in Milan and I find Heathrow overwhelming. Any suggestions Please?

Linate and Malpensa are both Milan airports, but Malpensa is 30 miles northwest of the city center, whereas Linate is closer (5 miles east) of the city center.

If you don't HAVE to be back, I would take MXP a day later. There are so many great things to do-you could pop on a train and go to Verona for the day, bus to lake district, etc. Also, if you are on AA miles (sounds like it), you can change your date for free. There is a decent chance that MXP will open up for the earlier date. Also, you can stay over in NYC for free and continue to Boston the next day, as well, if it is open.
We are flying back from MXP-JFK in 2 weeks on AA miles. I likeMXP airport (easy to get to from train stationjust take the shuttle bus for 7 euros) and it is a nice flight.

Thank you for your reply. That is the kind of info I need. A little nervous about waiting for a date to open up though.

^^ However, both take the same time to reach, roughly, if you don't have a car. 40 min by train to MAlpensa, 35 min by bus to Linate.

I would be predisposed to fly into or out of Malpensa, but the clincher is that you can avoid Heathrow by flying out of Malpensa. If possible, I would avoid Heathrow.

Thanks that confirms my feelings I will keep trying for the date I want out of Malpensa.
