Milan, Malpensa airport hotel/pensione/BB ???

I'm picking up a friend late on a Saturday evening and wish to crash out for the rest of the night then hit the road to Genova in the morning. Do you have any recommendations for a place to stay that is inexpensive, tidy and fairly close to the airport. If a cappuccino can be had in the AM, great! but not required.

Has anyone stayed near one of the Malpensa Express stops? The brand new Starhotel Grand Milan is within walking distance of the Saronno train station (a stop halfway between MXP and Cadorna). I was thinking about staying there for the convenience of getting to both downtown for my last day in Italy and the airport the next day without the need for Taxi's, busses, shuttles, etc.

Chris---I too am flying out of Malepensa very early---and need to spend the night at a hotel very close to the airport. Any suggestions???? Rick Steves recommends Hotel Cervo, but I have e mailed them twice without a response. Thanks.

Hi Cathy. I did find a hotel close to the airport, about 3km I think. It is called the Hotel Ascot. I booked it through initiali.it, info below. I had to contact them once via email, and they were quick getting a response back to me. I booked a double room for about 90 Euros if memory serves. That was the cheapest of the close hotels. The initalia site seemed to be the best I ran across after doing lots of research. I hope this helps. Ciao, Chris

The Ascot is good, I've stayed there. Here's the best list you'll find of Malpensa airport hotels: clickThe Cervo is hard to book, apparently because it's the only Malpensa airport Rick lists and everyone with his book with one of the infamous early Malpensa flights books it for the night before. If considering the Tre Leoni, go to TripAdvisor and read reviews before you decide.

We stayed at First Hotel Malpensa and we are doing the same thing this year. It's very close to the airport and they have shuttles that regularly take you back and forth. Our price this year is about 30 euro more expensive than last year, but we're taking it b/c of convenience.
