Trying to find inexpensive , clean, not too terribly noisy, lodging in downtown Milan. Would be nice to have our own bathroom . Don't want to pay more than 85 euro's a night. We leave soon and are having trouble !!thank you

Unfortunately Milan is a very high cost hotel town in Sept and Oct because it's jammed with business conventions and the hotel operators know they can get their price. If you have to stay there in Sept and October, take the best price you can get. Have you tried Rick's $ (low price) suggestions in his book? At least with them you'll have your own bathroom.

Check out the Hotel Ritter. That's where I stay, and it's downtown, cheaper and clean!

via the internet you can get a single room with bath at the Hotel Florida in Milan. 65 Euros
It is 100m from the Centrale train station.
Good location. It is listed in Rick's book.
