My daughter is scheduled to fly out of the Linate Airport in Milan, Italy in June. I know that the train doesn't run to Linate, and cab alternatives are very expensive. Does anyone have any advice on where she should stay the night before to make getting to the airport easy and as inexpensive as possible? Her flight leaves at 7:45 am. The hotel I've been considering has shuttle service, but it doesn't begin until 6 am.
The Starfly bus from Milano Centrale train station/Piazza Luigi di Savoia takes half an hour to Linate and also starts running at 6:00. If her flight is within Europe, a 6:00 departure should get her there in time, but do also confirm the required check-in deadline with the airline. Rick's book estimates that a taxi for this ride costs "only" about 25 euros, if she needs to leave earlier, and the hotel can reserve a taxi the night before.
When you say "cab alternatives are very expensive," I think you're confusing Milan's airports. Malpensa is very far outside the city, and a taxi there is indeed very expensive. But Linate is close to the city, and as posted above, a taxi is very reasonable.
