Milan Itinerary

My wife and I will be landing in Milan in the evening. We would like to be on the train to Varenna no later than 2PM the next day. My question: What is the best way to get from the airport to a hotel, visit the Duomo and the church in which "The Last Supper" resides the next morning (without lugging our luggage around), get our luggage at the hotel and then get to the train station by (no later) than 2PM? Also, anybody know of an inexpensive hotel that will temporarily stow our luggage while we sightsee? Thanks

I am not positive, but I have read elsewhere that many train stations have a place where you can securely store your luggage. I would not be surprised if the train stations in Milan have such an option...Anyone ?

You will need a reservation in advance to view The Last Supper. They assign a time, and that will affect the rest of your itinerary on that day. So you'll probably want to nail that down first. Malpensa airport is 30 miles out of Milan, so you'll want to study up on the transportation options and time it takes to get from MXP to downtown.

We took a bus from the airport to the main train station and stayed at Hotel Berna (5 min walk from station) great hotel, and I'm sure they would keep your luggage. It's a quick ride on a subway to get to the Duomo and the Last Supper, but leaving by 2 seems rushed to me. I would either leave later or spend another night in Milan. Unlike a lot of posters here, we really enjoyed our time there. Have a great trip!
