It has been recommended that we book a place to stay closer to Centrale Train Station. Do you have any recommendations of places to stay. We will be in Milan May 5-8. One of the days while we are there, we are planning to do a day trip to Venice.
Any other recommendations of top places in Milan for our short stay in Milan?
Thank you,
Lorna Rush
We were just in Milan 3days ago. Stayed at Hotel Berna that was recommended by several people on this site. Very clean, friendly staff and literally a 5 minute walk to Milan Centrale station. I wouldn’t hesitate staying there again! Happy travels!
A budget hotel in central Milan is the Hotel London: https://www.hotellondonmilano.com/en/index.php. I found it odd that Milan has a Hotel London, but so it does. It is a budget hotel with just the basics, but it's no-frills comfortable and centrally located.
We were in Milan 2 weeks ago and stayed at Hotel Windsor. It's about a 15 minute walk from Milano Centrale. Nice hotel with an excellent breakfast.
Milan to Venice is about 2.5 hours via fast train each way
I consider that too far, too much time traveling for a day trip
If you want to see Venice stay a few nights and give it the time it deserves
As a day trip you’ll be there with all the other day trippers and cruise passengers
Most who visit Venice that way end up hating it
We also like Hotel Berna, and will be staying there again. I noticed the price has gone up quite a bit since we booked months ago. They do accept many of the reward systems points, so check that if you participate ( eg Chase, Avios).
Milan to Venice as a day trip would be a long day. The train is about 2.5 hrs each way, and you would be missing the peaceful morning and evenings. Can you be persuaded to spend a night, or two, instead of day tripping?
Have a great trip!

I stayed at Hotel Garda in Milan. It is very near the train station and just a few doors down the block from Hotel Berna. At the time I booked, Hotel Garda offered a significant discount for booking via their website and agreeing in advance to pay cash. There is an atm nearby if needed.
It’s sad that you are just planning a day trip to Venice, mainly because that plan is almost certain to result in you not liking Venice. The best time of the day for Venice is before all of the day trip people arrive and after they leave in the evening.
Take the 7:15am Frecciarossa (fast train) that has no connections for you from Milano Centrale station to arrive at Venice S. Lucia train station at 9:42am. From there you will need a vaporetto (water bus) to head to the Rialto and/or San Marco. I would head to San Marco ASAP as it will get busier during the mid-day. If that seems too early to be ready, I seriously wouldn’t bother going…and Venice is one of my favorite cities. Coming back, the next to the last direct train leaves Venice at 6:18pm.
If you skip the day trip to Venice, there’s no need to stay near the train station in Milan. Something more central to the duomo & sites would be more atmospheric.
We always stay at the NYX, clean, comfortable, good service and across from the station.
We are flying into Milan, in June, we are planning to go straight to Tuscany. But, should we not? is Milan worth seeing for a night? I may sound naive...but is it a city that is am just see?
Katrinalehman,
Pls start your own thread , to keep comments on topic.
Also, please do not drive after an international flight. Was that your plan?
I want your trip to be as carefree and safe as possible.
