Milan in 24 hours?

We will be traveling through Milan from Torino to the Lakes region, and are thinking of spending one night in Milan. What would be a few highlights you'd recommend we see? I want to see the Duomo, and if there's any chance to see The Last Supper, that would be amazing. Other than those two wishes, anything else would be a bonus. We won't have much time, so I'm seeking suggestions for a brief stay.

Thanks for any suggestions you can offer.

The Last Supper has to be reserved in advance, or with a 3rd party tour.
The roof of the Duomo, and the nearby mall galleria, are worth experiencing.

One of Michaelangelo’s Pietas is in the Sforza Castle. When we were there we were almost alone with it. Just us and a guard. Last Supper is worth it if you can get a reservation. And there’s always window shopping.

I agree with Kent. Do the roof of the Duomo and the Galleria. I once watched an episode of “The Amazing Race” and they had dinner on Street Car/Trolley that went all around the city. I think that would be a fun experience for you. My wife and I did that in Melbourne, Australia for lunch and it was a great experience.

Thank you all! I learned that the Last Supper viewings are limited to 15 minutes, and for the cost of the 3rd party tours, I'm going to pass, I think. I'm interested in the Duomo and the roof, and the trolley sounds fun, too. We will just be happy to soak up what we can before heading out of town.

Thanks again,
Laurie

Although you only are allowed 15 minutes to actually view the Last Supper, the tour we took gave us so much more background on Da Vinci and prepared us for the short time we had to view his masterpiece.

This is the tour we took. Our guide was wonderful and really explained Da Vinci and the Last Supper so we could appreciate the 15 minutes we had. It was a walking tour with an additional stop as we had extra time prior to our scheduled entry. Well worth the extra Euros. I think the entire tour was about 3 hours.

Thank you, Mother Duck! I'm glad your tour was worthwhile! I appreciate the link.

Another question: Where are good places to look for picnic foods - the Milanese version of Monoprix, Carrefour, or Coop?

Thanks,
Laurie

There are Carrefour, Auchan, Esselunga all aroud the city, and there are also many parks to have a lovely picnic.
Parco Sempione is the biggest, just behind the Sforza Castle.
