Milan hotels or B&B recommendations.

I usually stay near the Central Train station - on the Metro it would be very easy to go between the La Scala area and back. I like the Hotel Berna or the Garda. Both are about 2 blocks from the train station and there is a metro station right on the
corner of the street.

I stay at the Garda when I'm in Milano.

When we went to La Scala we wanted to be within walking distance. We stayed at Antica Locanda die Mercanti which was perfect. In the afternoon we walked down Via Dante to see the Duomo and the Galleria, and also the other direction to Sfortza castle. Our room had a roof terrace shaded with an arbor. For a light dinner before the performance, we bought focaccia sandwiches at Princi and ate on the terrace. Then we walked over to La Scala, where we had reserved four seats in a box. It was a memorable evening, and I would happily stay at that same place again. It was expensive, but all of Milan is expensive. We saved enough without picnic dinner to cover half the room cost.

We were pleased with Hotel Berna two years ago. Decent area. Don't feel Milan was any more expensive than Roma or Florence.
