Milan Hotel with Easy Access to the Airport

We will be in Milan for only one night (arriving by train) and will be catching a flight back home the next morning. Any recommendations for an inexpensive hotel that is convenient to the train station and airport?

If you are flying from Malpensa back to the US, it is not close to the central station in Milan. In December we stayed at the Hotel Berna, which is a long block or two from the train station. I liked it very much and their website has all the info you need. You could easily walk there and the next morning take the train to the airport after enjoying dinner and a good sleep in Milan. The only exception I could think of might be if a convention is going on, in which case an airport hotel might be less expensive.

If your flight is before 11:00 am, I'd stay near the airport. There are a number of them. The neighborhood has nothing to recommend it, but Malpensa can be very jammed in the morning and you want to be there on time. The Malpensa airport has a great website with links to nearby hotels. I recommend the Hotel First if it is offering reasonable rates. http://www.airportmalpensa.com/airport-hotels.html

Joan, Another option you could consider would be the London Hotel, which is located very close to Milano Cadorna station. The Hotel is within easy walking distance to the Duomo and Galleria Vittorio Emmanuele, and there are some nice restaurants in that neighborhood. That would allow you to have a pleasant last evening in Milan, rather than sleeping near the airport with nothing to do. Travel to the airport via the Malpensa Express is a very easy trip (about 30-minutes from what I recall), and no worries about traffic. I used that method on a previous trip to Italy. I walked up to the station and bought my ticket for the Malpensa Express the previous day, which also allowed me to "scope out" the station and get an idea where the departure platforms were. On departure day I had the Hotel call a Taxi for the ride to the station. I could have walked but with luggage it would have been an effort. The Taxi ride was only 5-minutes or so. Happy travels!
