Milan hotel prices

I was looking for a hotel near the Milan Central Station for September and noted that the hotel price for a mid range hotel I was looking at jumps from 150 a night in July to 600 a night in August and remains 600 a night for the rest of the year, is this normal for Milan or is something going on? II guess I will be skipping Milan on this trip.

I just looked at the rates for the hotel I've stayed at twice in Milan, Hotel Gran Duca di York near the Duomo. The prices are still within range from July with it looks like a low of 220E to October where some nights are 290E. You can tell when there is a special event as there may be a 2-night minimum but I don't see any jumps up to a 600E range.

I AM seeing those jumps for hotels in Paris during the Olympics.

Do you have a price (in Euro) you are looking for?

Milan hotel prices are very sensitive to events such as conventions, opera, trade shows, and other factors.

But I suggest you try a different hotel. I just checked our favored Hotel Berna to compare a 2-night midweek stay in Mid-July versus mid-August. The nightly price actually send down: from €165 for a double room in the Annex in July to €120 for the same room type in August. Rooms in the main building had similar price differences. Those are probably non-refundable (lowest) price, but in any case they indicate the situation is not as dire as you think.

Hotel Berna is indeed very close to Milano Centrale (easily walkable with luggage) and a nice friendly place.

Just checked the Berna and it goes from $285 on Sept 10-13 to $405 from Sept 13-Sept 25th it with no availability on many nights. Obviously I picked a bad time to visit Milan...Gran Duke goes form $350 USD but jumps to $630 USD on the 15-17th and 21st. At $350-400 the rest of the month that is still outside my budget...It's the Hotel Garda that jumps form $130 in august to $6oo in September . All of this info is off of Booking.com

Sorry, I was focused on your July and August comments and missed that your dates are actually in September.

Did you check the Taylor Swift European tour schedule? Just a thought. Good luck!

LOL. You made me check. It seems Taylor is on break from mid August to mid October. So can't blame it on her, though wasn't a bad guess!

We were in Milan at the end of September last year. I had started looking for a hotel near the station in December of '22. One of the hotels told me that they did not set their rates until the trade show/convention schedule was firmed up. The hotel I wanted (43 Station) was showing rates around 200 euro/night, I kept checking and on February 21, their rate had dropped to 130 euro/night. I'm hoping for that to happen again this year.
Hope you find what you are looking for at a decent price.
