Milan Hotel Near Airport

We have a 6 AM flight out of Milan and would like to spend the night near the airport. We will be coming in from Varenna the day before we leave. Any suggestions for a clean, comfortable hotel with super easy access to the airport? If possible, we'd like to do a little sight seeing in the afternoon, but mostly get a decent dinner and good night sleep before heading home.

I stayed at the same hotel suggested by Joe above (multiple times), and liked it. The day before the flight I usually spent my time at their pool/jacuzzi. There isn't much to sightsee near the Malpensa airport, it's in the middle of nowhere. They do have a shuttle, but I think it starts to operate a little later than you need for your 6am flight, so you might need a taxi (that's what I did when I had a super early flight years ago).

I also heard good things about this one below, but never stayed here yet:

The most convenient is probably the Sheraton, at the airport itself (just across the Terminal 1). Never stayed there either, but it's an option.

We have always stayed at the Hotel Villa Malpensa which has a wonderful dining room for your last night in Italy.

As much as I don't want to disagree with Suki, I'm afraid I must. The Hotel Villa Malpensa was not nearly as nice as the website photos suggest. The hallways were dark and dingy. The restaurant was overpriced for okay food. The service at the front desk and at the restaurant was grudging. And perhaps the kicker for me were the ants that were crawling all over my luggage in the morning. I was there just 5 weeks ago.

Edit to add: I forgot to mention the party that was occurring at either a park or campground outside the hotel. It went until the early morning hours. And yes, I heard it all.

Thanks for your suggestions! The Hotel Villa Milpensa looks lovely, and the reviews look favorable, but it sounds like someone had a pretty bad experience. Might be better to go with a global brand for potential consistency.

Everyone is assuming you are flying from Malpensa, not Linate. From your response that appears to be correct, but can you confirm? I ask because our British Airways flight 2 weeks ago was from Linate, and other airlines use that airport as well.

I'm glad you asked because I didn't know! It is Malpensa, TAP Air Portugal, Terminal 1.

We stayed at First Hotel, about a 5-minute drive from MXP. They have a shuttle that they charge a small fee for. Simple but comfortable rooms and a nice restaurant next door.

In 2018 I stayed in the Cardano Hotel Malpensa near the airport. They had a free shuttle then. Room was immaculate and a decent breakfast was included. The front desk staff were helpful and printed my boarding pass for me. The hotel worked with two local restaurants who would send a driver to pick you up and take you back, as there weren’t really places to walk. Had an excellent meal.

My daughter and I stayed at Osteria della Pista in 2022. We had a delayed flight, just called them and they picked us up when we arrived. The room was spacious, they have a very good restaurant on site which was still open when we arrived so we managed to have dinner. Then the next morning after breakfast their shuttle took us back to the airport. Can thoroughly recommend,

In August we stayed at the Sheraton at Malpensa airport. We had travelled on the train from Varenna in the morning, spent a couple of hours with a private guide in Milan (a fantastic experience), and then rode the train to the airport. We were worn out at the end of our two week trip and walking into the Sheraton was just what we needed, especially knowing that in the morning we'd simply walk over to the terminal for our flight.

I stayed at the MOXY which is at the airport and very modern; I slept well. The Sheraton is also located at the airport.

The Moxy Hotel is located at Terminal 2 which is a few miles away from Terminal I. The shuttle time between the terminals is about 20 minutes plus wait time for the shuttle can be 15- 30 minutes depending on time of day or night.

We took a taxi from the Moxy to terminal 1 and it cost 25€ .

Thank you all! We're booked at the Sheraton and I love the thought of a guide/tour in Milan. We, too, will be coming in by train from Varenna for the 1 night before leaving. If Brenda can share the contact info for the guide, that would be great! Great feedback on this issue!

@Jennifer, that’s good to know your details about the MOXY. I walked across the street to catch the shuttle, and it wasn’t more than five minutes before it left. Of course, I add so much buffer “just in case” time for flights that I had plenty if time to relax over breakfast at the airport.

SueSea, I would love to share the contact for our guide in Milan. The company is Bella Milano tours; our guide was Valeria. Check contact info at their web page. We booked Valeria for two hours, I think that was quite a short time. I'd suggest more time with her if you can do it. While the company website has tours on offer, we emailed about our interests and our timeline, and she emailed back with ideas, all of which we reconfirmed at the time of our meet up with Valeria. We had a delightful time, and I surely hope to tour with her again in the future.
