Milan Hotel for one night

Instead of spending our last night in Italy near the airport we would like to spend our time in Milan. Our flight is not until 12pm so we don't have to worry about early morning shuttles and plan on taking the Malpensa Express around 8 or 9 am.

Can anyone recommend a nice hotel near a Malpensa Express train station? We would like an area that is nice to walk around and see a few things in the early evening with restuarants etc. This is our only stop in Milan so we want to maximize our time. We will be arriving from Varenna that afternoon. A cab to the train station is not out of the question if we can find a great area.

We were in Milan less than 24 hours at the beginning of a 14 day Italy tour. We stayed at Hotel London which is within walking distance of the Metro and also the Duomo, the Castle, La Scala, etc. It's not luxury by any stretch, but was convenient, clean & comfortable. Board the closest Metro and the next stop is the train station that you board Malpensa Express. We weren't oriented to Italy yet, and still we had no trouble. http://www.hotel-london-milan.com/ I should also add that because Milan has excellent bus/tram service, we were convenient to The Last Supper - I would recommend you going to that. Just be sure to reserve tickets as soon as possible (I think 3 months out is the earliest).
One more thought, Tripadvisor has a couple of great local experts on their Milan board if you need to ask specific quesitons of them.

Kristen- I can't comment on the neighborhood or quality of the hotel because I haven't stayed there, but I just booked a hotel in Milan near the train station for only 50 euros a night, about half of any other hotel I could find! Its called Hotel Valley and I believe it was in a RS book a few years back. The website should nice pictures. Its small and family run.

We stayed at the Gran Duca di York 2 or 3 blocks from the Duomo. An easy taxi ride to the Cadorna station for the Malpensa Express. Very nice hotel and not too unreasonable for that area of Milan. Would stay there again in a second.
