Milan Hotel for early morning flight

Can anyone recommend a good value hotel for a 1 night stay in Milan? We will be at Lake Como and will fly out of Malpensa at 10:00am. It would be nice to see a little of the city but would like to be convenient to transportation. Your recommendations are appreciated!

We stayed at Hotel Garda. It is near the train station and you can catch a bus to Malpensa by the station as well. The hotel is also near a subway station if you want to see some sights.

I stay at the Garda as well. A (long) block from the train station and metro.

Here is another vote for the Hotel Garda.
There is another hotel right across the street from the Garda.
Hotel Berna - it just a little bit higher in price, (I've stayed at both before)
but both are just a short walk to the main station -
then you can take either bus or train to the airport.

With rush hour traffic - you never know about the bus,
but the train might be a better choice.

Karen,

I was in Milan a few weeks ago, and stayed at Hotel Garda for one night for the same reason. It's a nice hotel and the room was very comfortable, but I was disappointed to find that they charged for Wi-Fi.

Garda is only a five minute walk from Milano Centrale (once you know the way - I timed it), so it's very convenient for transportation on the Metro as well as the Malpensa Express. I bought my M.E. ticket the day prior to travel just to save some time, and that method worked well. DON'T forget to validate it though just prior to boarding the train. As I recall, the M.E. departs from Track / Binario 2, which is to the far left when facing the tracks, and "offset" a bit from the other tracks.

When you arrive at the airport and you're departing from Terminal 1, walk up the stairs and turn right. It's well marked and very easy to find. Once you go through security, you'll have to "run the gauntlet" through numerous duty-free and other shops (that seems to be typical at many airports these days).

Thanks so much, everyone! We are traveling now and plans are falling into place. I appreciate your help! I will look into the Hotel Garda and the nearby one mentioned. We've only traveled through Milan before and this time may actually see some of this big city. Karen

My mom & were just in Milan a couple of weeks ago & we stayed at Hotel Palazzo Stelline - www.hotelpalazzostelline.it

which is very close to Cadorna Station (Castello Sforzesco area), it's close to the historical center and trains from Cadorna to the airport are faster than from the central station.

We purchased tickets for the Malpensa Express train (track #1) day before & it only took about 30 minutes from Cadorna Station to Malpensa Airport.

No hotel to suggest, but I would stay closer to the Cadorna station. Trains from there are only 36 min to Malpensa and Cadorna is closer to the historical sights too.

Thanks for the information about staying near the Cadorna Station. This looks promising and the shorter train ride would be helpful since our flight is early. How far is it from the Hotel Palazzo Stelline to Cadorna Station? Is it walkable or should we take a taxi?

Many thanks,
Karen

The hotel is very close to the station & walkable.

Check Google map for distance but it's only a few blocks. We decided to take a taxi the morning of our flight & the taxi only cost us 4.5 Euros!
Just ask the hotel staff to call a taxi when you are ready to leave. We grabbed breakfast to-go at the hotel at 7am & the taxi ride took less than 5 minutes.

Just remember that the train from Lake Como will take you to Milano Centrale, and from there, you will need to take the Metro to Cadorna station.

Karen,

If you decide to stay near Cadorna station, you might have a look at Hotel London. It's in a quiet side street, only a few steps from Via Dante and easily walkable to the main sights. It would be easy to walk to Cadorna from the hotel, but with luggage I'd suggest a Taxi.

Thanks again, everyone! Your advice and travel experiences have helped us tremendously! The Hotel Palazzo Stelline has a room and we plan to take the taxi with our luggage for the train from Cadorna Station. Hoping for smooth travels.
